Following up from last week’s Top 10 Landscape Photos of 2015, I now have my favourite wildlife photos from last year.
I had a lot of images to choose from because in September of 2014 I went on a trip to Tanzania, Africa, and most of those images did not get processed until 2015, making them contenders for this year’s list.
Here are my favourites in the order I made them:
1. Pacific White Sided Dolphin
My favourite thing about summer in BC is boating with the dolphins and whales! But you have to be really fast to catch one in the frame, especially when you’re driving the boat at the same time. I made a bunch of video to go with this one too!
2. Lion Cubs on the Kopje
At the end of the evening in Serengeti National Park, I was treated to an incredible moment when sunset colours blanketed the sky just as two cubs decided to descend the kopje to join their parents below.
3. Zebras at the Watering Hole
It was amazing how I could hear every footstep, the breathing, and snorting as hundreds of zebras moved all around us.
4. Lilac Breasted Roller
While bumping down the road in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania, I noticed a roller perched at the end of a branch and it was just about to enjoy it’s lunch. A brightly coloured dragonfly with yellows and purples was being held in the roller’s beak.
5. The Baby Elephant Sees Me
This is one of my favourite moments during my safari when this baby elephant was trying it’s hardest to see me over his sibling’s back. So cute!
6. The Wildebeest Migration
As soon as one wildebeest enters the water they all go together in a thunderous stampede like a courageous protest of the wild — they can’t kill us all.
7. Mother and baby giraffe
I came across this mother and baby giraffe in the Mara River area of Tanzania. I really like how the baby fits in the frame of its mother’s legs.
8. The Dancing Egret
I love this “conductor” pose as the egret lands on the Salton Sea, California.
9. Juvenile Bald Eagle and Red Snapper
A moment I’ll never forget when 15 bald eagles ate fish on the beach just across from our campsite in Campbell River, British Columbia.
10. Humpback Whale Breaching
Another incredible boating day in Campbell River, British Columbia.
I just couldn’t keep it down to 10 with so many wildlife images and special moments last year!
11. Sandhill Cranes at Whitewater Draw
A new find last year, Whitewater Draw in Arizona was a special spot I can’t wait to return to.
12. Great Blue Heron Abstract
I love to use long exposures to make abstract motion blur images, like I did with this Great Blue Heron which flew past my campsite in Campbell River, British Columbia.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my favourite images from last year. It certainly was a prolific year for me with tons of photographs to choose from for my top 10 lists.
I wish you all good luck and good light in 2016! And, if you have a top 10 list, feel free to leave a link in the comments below. I’d love to see them!
