COUNTDOWN: 6 weeks until my new life begins!
I know my blog has suffered a bit lately as I go through all the necessary tedium to cut the strings to my current life. I am trying to simplify my life, yet my key chain keeps gaining more keys. I’ll be so glad when all the administration is over: sorting out insurance issues, getting my teeth fixed, figuring out how I’m going to get my prescriptions, cancelling all of my accounts, get a spare pair of glasses, let alone the buying, selling, packing and storing. And, oh yeah, don’t forget the lawyers.
Once I have all this sorted out, I’ll make it into a checklist to help others who want to leave the country for an extended period of time.
Another milestone was hit this week when we picked up our new 5th wheel. It is so beautiful, I just had to share these snapshots with you. Now be warned, these are *snapshots* – not art. I dont want any of my photography friends to think this is my idea of fine architectural interiors or anything. But snapshots have their purpose: documenting what it looked like before the dogs got in and haired it all up.

The rig is a 28′ 9″ Keystone Cougar. Since we have our big baby blue truck, we’ll have no problems towing the Cougar anywhere we want to go. We’re planning on getting a generator as well so we can set up anywhere we want, although we’ll probably go to full hook up sites most of the time. Then when we disconnect, big baby blue will be able to take us on the backroads. Ultimate freedom!
Big baby blue has had some work done on her to get ready for the trip: new exhaust manifold (which we were aware of when we bought it); coolant flush; something about transmission and differential (these are just words that don’t mean anything to me unlike “chromatic aberration” or “parallax”); a slide window in the back so the dogs can get some air; and a storage box for the back.
Looks comfortable and I know what you mean about beagle hair – it gets in places and won’t budge.
When is the departure date?
Hi Michael,
We are leaving the house on May 26th, but we have to stick around for a few days while the house sells. We are leaving Victoria on June 2nd and going to Nanaimo for a week or two to visit my parents and decompress a bit before we start out. Thanks for your comment.
Anne,
Congrats on the 5th wheel, and best wishes in the next 6 weeks until the new phase begins!
Don’t forget to hook her up with MiFi. 😀
It’s beautiful and not much smaller than my apartment I don’t think! Looks like the perfect home for while you’re away!! Cheers!
Wow, that is a really nice looking 5th wheel. Congrats!!
Wow, it’s nicer than my apartment! When is departure?

(look at me….blogging)
Hey look at you!!! Blogging and all!!!! LOL. You have to come by and check out the new digs. We’re leaving Victoria in 5 weeks, but in 4 weeks we’ll be at Island View while the house sells. So 4 weeks left in the house. Now it all seems to be happening so fast.
What a great blog! In about a year, I’m planning on RVing around the United States (including Alaska). I will go with a friend and my 4 Bichons. I will study your blog and your budget with interest. My first question: Did you start with a book to tell you how to do this? Thanks.
Hi Marilyn, how exciting! I’m glad you are enjoying the blog and I hope you find it useful in planning your trip. No, I didn’t start with any kind of book except for maybe the National Geographic guide to the national parks! My husband started a blog about RVing so that is a resource you might find helpful: http://loveyourrv.com. Thanks for your visit and comments and good luck!
