Enough with the nature photography already! A guy can only take so much. My husband I mean. I can only take him to see so many sunrises, nature trails and little birdies before he needs to do some cool guy stuff. So off we went to the Daytona International Speedway. My turn to do something I would never do on my own so that Ray can have some fun too.

Well it turns out it was pretty cool! I actually liked it. We had fun on our trolly tour of the grounds and guess what? They have some neat architecture!!! Who woulda thought?
And I found some neat patterns of empty chairs.
Finally, for my friend Toad, the long awaited video of the new corvette they were testing on the track that day. You gotta see this!
Next on our itinerary of cool guy stuff: the NASA space center.
Nice series of images Anne. Don’t tell this to your husband but I prefer sunsets ; )
haha, I’ll keep your secret Len! Thanks for the compliment.
very Piet Mondrian like..
Hi Kaz! It is Mondrian like isn’t it?!! I didn’t think of that until you pointed it out. Thanks for mentioning that – I ended up taking some time to review Mondrian, Kandinsky and Pollock, I haven’t looked at that stuff in too long.
Nice work Anne, I see you into all types of photography beyond nature. It certainly does nothing but help exercise your eye. And you do have an eye for design by the looks of these photographs. I love the red door! Happy 2012!
Steve
Hi Steve! Thanks for stopping by and having a look. I do like other types of photography besides nature, mostly architecture and anything that makes patterns or reflections. Happy New Year to you too!
Love that one of the seats.
Thanks Chris, I am always attracted to patterns like that.
I really like those strong geometric colors. Nice captures.
Thanks Andy, it was such a surprise to find them there. I wonder if I would have even noticed them if I was not a photographer.
Wow, the design of the place is really modern and made for some nice abstract shots!
Thanks Curt, I was pretty surprised to find this kind of architecture here. I thought it would be all cars and racetrack. We had a fun day!
Toad porn!!! I’ve been waiting for this post now for what seems to be an eternity since you dropped the hint to me a bit back Anne. WOW! Talk about delivering the goods, my friend! To me and my best friend, Mudpuppy, the Daytona track is a hallowed place, a place to be revered and loved. You’ve done a great job in capturing the character and essence of this place, my friend, top-flippin-drawer!
As you well know, we love Corvette’s here at The Hollow. Our beloved family member “Beastie” is a 1987 convertible roadster. We’ve been telling her all week about this upcoming post. I have held the monitor up to her windshield all day here, replaying that video. She, uh, enjoyed the lines on the fenders there very much but couldn’t quite make out the details. She said something about it being a “tad bit blurry”. She likes speed a lot, so she’s not really complaining you understand, moreso just stating her view. Maybe you could post a 20 minute, frame-by-frame, version of that for us?
Hey Toad! I’m so glad you liked the post. I was thinking of you when I made that video. I have to say though that the corvette was pretty blurry in person too!!! I don’t really know what it looked like. Actually when it was on the opposite side of track it was much easier to see. It was a fun day all around. Thanks again for all your visits and comments, they are very much appreciated.
Hahaha Toad! Your reaction was exactly what I expected! You crack me up!
Anne this is so cool!!
Thank you very much Heather!
That video is such a tease!! Love the strong colors and geometry of the facilities, but to truly be “Guy Stuff” we needed more chrome and rubber ๐ Great shots.
Hi Howard, ok ok more chrome and rubber next time!! ๐ It would be so much fun to go there when there’s a race on. I don’t know if I would have even considered it before, but now that I’ve been there and felt the excitement when there’s just a few cars on the track I can see how much fun it would be. There are RV spots in the middle of the field too. Thank you very much for your visit and comments.
Hi Anne…Happy New Year. I’m a bit behind with my blog visits. This looks like fun. You ended up getting some great shots.
Hi Edith, it turned out that is was quite a bit of fun. Before our tour I couldn’t imagine myself going to a race at all but now I can see how exciting it would be.
