Human Error.
It is impossible to prevent. It always happens — eventually. It is only a matter of time.
The only thing we can do is NOT do things so incredibly stupid as to spOIL everything when human error inevitably happens.
Have you ever wondered how much our lives depend on the ocean?
Please watch this very important video about the biggest threat to the pacific coast in our lifetime. Don’t let what happened in the Gulf happen to us. It is a 45 minute video, but please don’t let that stop you. Make the time in your day. Just start watching it.
It is a beautiful piece of film put together by the International League of Conservation Photographers and contains some of the most outstanding images I have ever seen (and my standards are high) by some of the best photographers in the world.
I have to say that I haven’t been a big protester since my university days. It irritates me when people are only ever against things and offer no solutions. It irritates me when I see the same people at all the protests. But this issue is bigger than that. There are alternatives to this plan.
If you have ever navigated the ocean in a boat, don’t miss the part at 11:00 that shows the route the tankers will take and the section at 31:00 that describes the difficult manoeuvres required.

The work is truly outstanding…cool!
Hi Siddhartha, it is outstanding isn’t it? I hope one day I can do something with my photography as worthy as this. Thanks for your comments.
Just an outrageous proposal to despoil an incredible wild region. As Anne says, if the project goes through it’s not a question of if, but when, the spill happens and the ecosystem is devastated. The film is excellent. I highly recommend it, but if you don’t have time to watch it now, there’s a 3 minute trailer on the website of one of the organizations involved with producing it (it’s on the bottom of this page):
