The Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys features a scenic bridge which was originally the overseas rail bridge built in 1912 to connect the Florida Keys to the mainland. Much of the railway was damaged in the 1930’s “storm of the century”. Too expensive to repair as a rail bridge, it was converted to an overseas highway.
Today the bridge is only used by tourists who can go for long walks to enjoy a scenic view of the keys and watch the fishermen below. Two sections of the bridge were removed to allow boat traffic to pass.
I tried to make three images with different moods as the light changed at sunset.

Anne, Wow! What else can I say? I love the colors of the first shot those pastel pinks and purples and the composition of the Sun in the gap…Wow! Also a great example of how the light can change so sticking around to see what comes next is always a good idea, I like how you made the vertical shot with it zoomed in to give another perspective. Another great post and shots!
Hi Howard, thank you so much for your kind comments! I’m really glad you enjoyed the images. Sunset colours are always classic, but I like to stick around after the sun goes down. It is really amazing how much colour is left in the sky that we cannot see with our eyes, but the camera can pick it up especially with a long exposure.
First one works for me. ๐
Thanks Chris! I always like to find out which images people prefer, so thanks for letting me know which is your favourite ๐
They’re all wonderful, Anne. The middle one takes my breath away.
Oh really? A vote for the middle one! Thank you very much Mim, I appreciate it.
Very nice captures, Anne. My strong preference is for the black-and-white version because of the treatment but also because of the crop, with the far end of the bridge going just beyond the edge of the image. Looks like your time in FL was well spent.
Hi Steve, thank you for your comments and letting me know which image is your favourite. It is always so hard to choose! I loved my time in Florida. We spent 2 months going along the whole coastline (bypassing Miami) and it was gorgeous. I highly recommend it!
The middle one in Orange does it for me, it looks “other worldly” though the B&W is a close second. The B&W give me a since of time for the the structure
Hi Vern, It seems to be breaking pretty even among the 3 images for people’s favourites – no wonder it is hard to choose. I think only one can go in my official portfolio or there would be too many similar shots. But I love them all! Thank you very much for taking the time to write.
Nice shots, Anne. Looks others have chosen a favorite. Well, I like the B&W best. It has a very soft, comfortable feel.
Hi Mark, It’s funny between the blog, twitter and google +, people pick different images. Most people on G+ said they liked the black and white one, but then the first one got way more +1’s. Then again clicking the +1 button takes a lot less effort than making a comment so I tend to weigh the comments more heavily. They have more value. Thank you so much for visiting and letting me know your favourite.
Great shots Anne. Each is unique and glorious in its own way. I love the colors in the first image and how you’ve placed the bridge in the middle of the frame. I love the close-up of the bridge in the second image and the energy radiating from the red color. Finally I love the moodiness of the B&W image. Outstanding work.
Hi Edith! Thank you so much – I’m glad I’m not the only one who cannot choose a favourite! Thanks for your insights on each of the images, I really appreciate it.
I’m catching up with some of your past stuff! Wow! A fantastic set – stunning colour, and I also love that B&W shot – my life in photography started with B&W work and I’ve never lost that love for it.
Hi again Andy, my life in photography started in B&W too. I always love other people’s images in black and white, but for some reason I am usually less happy with my own black and white attempts. I do like how this one turned out so moody. Maybe I’m finally getting better at it. Thank you very much for all your comments.
Great images, Anne!
Each has it’s own outstanding merits and I really love them all. I must say, there is something special about that hot shot in the middle. Awesome perspective and color.
Thank you so much Jimi! Not very many people picked the middle image so I’m glad to hear someone liked it best. Thanks for dropping by!
The red one just love the red one. But last image is a very close 2nd.
