The year is off to a great start! I jumped around a bit in the order I processed my recent images, but the image below is the very first frame I took on January 1, 2013!

This is Clark Dry Lake in Anza Borrego State Park where we were boondocking just a short distance away and the first day of the year brought a stunning sunrise with it.
Signs of things to come?

Not a bad way to start the year Anne, a beautiful image with some amazing light!
All the best with your photography in 2013!
Thank you very much Kyle!
Very beautiful Anne. Love the way you captured the sunset and the cracked earth foreground.
Thank you Joe! It reminded me of some images I have seen from Death Valley although I haven’t been there yet.
Sweet image, love the colors!
Thank you so much Michael, I appreciate it!
Wow! You really captured some beautiful light there Anne. Love the glow on that playa.
Thank you very much Russ! It was a real surprise to find this location. We heard about the boondocking spot and then when we were there saw a lake on the map, but we could see from the campsite that the lake was dry. We took the dog for a walk down there thinking it would be a good place for her to run and then I discovered the cracked mud and made plans for a sunrise shot. It’s a great spot and there’s free camping!
Beautiful sunrise Anne! Hope it’s a great indication for a fantastic year!
Me too Michael! Thanks for your comments!
How beautiful! Love the cracked lake bed juxtaposed with the sunrise colors. I’ll be there for my first visit in early March. I can;t wait!
Hi Bo, it’s a beautiful spot. There are campsite you can pay for, but there are also tons of places in the park that you can camp for free. Have a great time!
What a fantastic first photo of the year. The dry lake looks like it is almost glowing. All the very best for 2013.
Hi Andy, it was glowing!! Just for a fleeting moment. As you know, the sweet light passes quickly. Thanks for your comments!
Simply beautiful image!!!! Love the reflection of the dry lake.
Thank you so much Fabio, I really appreciate your visit and comments.
Desert skies are the most beautiful, I think–and I live near the ocean.
Its true, I have seen the most amazing sunsets in the desert. Thank for your visit and comments Ken!
Love this shot. How do you find the Clark dry lake bed? I can’t find it on any maps of the anza boreggo desert
It’s on Rockhouse Canyon Road.
