I’m getting so far behind on processing my images! That’s why I decided to try to post one image per day so I would keep up on my procssing. But I’m still a month behind.
I do love processing, but when we’re travelling and I’m seeing so many new things I feel like I could just keep making new images forever and never get around to processing them.
It’s fun to find out which ones make the final cut though. I wasn’t expecting today’s photo to be one of them.
Today’s Photo: Bird in Flight Abstract
I would like to be able to say that this one was all planned out. But the truth is, it was a happy accident.
I was photographing birds that were just standing in the water. I can tell from the series of photos that I was on f/11 and suddenly it went up to f/13 which is an aperture I wouldn’t normally choose. I don’t know why, I just always choose 11 or 14 or 16, but not 13. So I know I accidentally bumped the dial which caused my shutter speed to drop to 1/60th of a second at the exact moment this little bird came in for a landing.
And that’s how my photo of stationary birds turned into a bird in flight abstract!
But you know what, I like it! Next time I’ll do it purposefully.
It looks like a Rorschach inkblot! I wonder how many “mistakes” have led to great discoveries!? Were you using your NEX6?
Ha, I didn’t think of that! No, I used my Canon 7D for this because I was shooting birds I wanted to use my 70-300 lens. The biggest lens I have for the NEX6 is the 55-210 so I got another 90mm by using my other camera. Plus, we were parked right there so I didn’t have to carry it far. Thanks for your comments Ken!
I like it too, Anne – especially with the reflection. As for being behind…only by a month? That sounds pretty good to me….I’m perennially behind in mine!
Hi Laurie, It’s hard to keep up isn’t it? Sometimes when I haven’t made any new images for awhile I’ll go back through my archive and find some gems I neglected to process at the time.
Really cool Anne, I’ve never seen a shot quite like it!
Thanks Jackson! I must be doing something right then if I got a unique image!!!
I love those “happy accidents” that turn into favorite images. Anne, I have just recently begun following your blog, and I thank you for sharing your experiences and beautiful images. Nature and wildlife photography has become my passion, and you are inspiring me to take that passion to a higher level. Wishing you all the best!
Thank you so much Joanna, I really appreciate your kind comments.
Personally I like happy accidents! Sometimes they are better than the planned shots. I think the reflection in this one really takes it up a notch!
Thank you so much Steve, I really appreciate it!
Neat photo Anne. I have also done the same thing when I’m in a hurry to take the next shot. It’s so easy to hit the command wheel and change the settings. I think we need to look into a way of blocking the wheel when we get thing set up to shoot.
Hi Bob, thank you very much! Probably if there was a way to block the wheel, it would be locked right at that moment when we quickly need to change it! Isn’t it always the way?
I’m fascinated by people who make major life changes, such as you have done. It takes a lot of courage, a strong sense of adventure and a willingness to face any new challenges coming your way with a new perspective. I’ve just discovered you and your journey. Congratulations! I do wonder about “road weariness”, however. Do you ever feel it? What do you do about it? Do you ever have a sense of loneliness? I ask these questions because I suspect I would have to deal with these issues if I were to do what you have done. On the surface, the thought of being a free soul and traveling to wherever strikes your fancy sounds heavenly. I’m an eye doctor and will call it quits in a couple more years. Then the great adventure….that has yet to be defined. Photography is certainly my passion, however, I see it as more than that. Photography enhances life by forcing me to pay attention. Photography facilitates the carpe diem lifestyle. It’s very helpful for me to read about your adventures, as I am motivated to pursue more ….more adventure, more growth, more life enhancement. I appreciate who you are and what you are doing. I’ll keep watch from afar. Godspeed.
Hi Chet, thank you so much for your very kind comments!
Road weariness? No … if we find we are not ready for the next place we just stay put for awhile. Lots of times we will stay in one place for a week or longer. There’s no pressure to keep moving.
Lonliness? No .. not that either. There are plenty of other people who are doing the same thing as us. We find that if we want to socialize there are lots of people at the RV sites to socialize with. Even when we’re boondocking! We’re at a boondocking spot right now with not a whole lot of people around and we’ve been invited for happy hour every night!
I wouldn’t let those things stop you. You’ll soon find out when you start travelling the solutions for those kind of things. Carpe Diem!!
This is a really neat photo! I love it! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mary, glad you like it 🙂
So great to wake up to another one of your mini-masterpieces. You guys have set the pace for so many others who will follow but in the meantime keep on keeping on as my great grandma would say.
Blessings, Dudley
Hi Dudley, thank you so much for your very kind comments, it’s appreciated!
Kind of looks like a watercolor painting.
Thanks Devlin!
