Here I am back at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument in Arizona and I realize I’ve looped myself! I have photos from this location that I made a year ago that I haven’t published yet.
Here’s one of them:
Making an image like this is all about waiting for the perfect light. I wanted nice sunset colours and to have the cactus in silhouette, but with just enough light in the foreground to be able to see the other plants. If the mountain and all of the foreground was in silhouette too, it would look like a big black blob.
Getting this kind of light means making the composition well ahead of time and waiting, and hoping, for the light to happen.
When it does, you have to be ready, because sometimes it only lasts a few seconds.
Beautiful image with perfect composition and exposure. I admire you courage and enjoy following you.
Organ Pipe is gorgeous, isn’t it? We were there a couple of weeks ago, but I sure didn’t get any photos as beautiful as yours!
Hi Anne,
Great shot! Love the colors and the composition! Perfect! And a good tip about setting up early.
Half the art of photography is being able to see what will happen 15 minutes from now. Or an hour from now. Great shot.
hello i will go there too in march , bravo for your pics
see you
sincerely
François
Great Photos Anne
Love that beautiful photo! Can you post more? 🙂
Loving your blog/photos perhaps also because in a month i will be driving cross country-Maryland to California-and I am also a photographer and a writer! I don’t RV though. I’ll be travelling with my 12 year old dog in a conventional car.
I’m doing it in 18 days.
Keep em coming.
