Just another desert sunset
I spend my days exploring
With my eye on the horizon
The spot the where the sun will later set
Will a blanket of clouds extinguish the light?
Will truant clouds create a pastel veil?
Or will the clouds disperse for the sun’s rays to infiltrate?
I spend my days exploring
Willing the clouds to appear and then break
The sun sinks below the horizon dimming the skies
Then, by a predictable magic, the belly of the clouds begin to blush
All the colours emerge in turn, circling around the sky
Igniting the clouds one by one
Just another desert sunset
I made this photo at the Salton Sea in California.
Wow, that is one incredible sunset.
Very beautiful
And beautiful poetry too, Anne.
superb picture – fine
Nice capture and verse Anne. I don’t remember sunsets looking that good in that desert.
Beautiful!
Gosh, what a beautiful photo and poem combined! You’re amazing…I love your pictures esp of Vancouver Island. I lived there for a short time and fell in love with it.
Keep the pictures and the poetry coming!
You nailed it! Turns out you are good at poetry as well
Those colors are incredible. Great photo, Anne!
Just another “Amazing” sunset. Very pretty!
Beautiful photo. I have a list of places and animals, including the Salton Sea, I want to see and visit when I finally embark on my journey in an RV. Scary to give up the security of a house but life is unpredictable, short and beautiful. So excited to see another woman photographer out there making it happen. Keep up the beautiful work.
i saw the same thing in Death Valley last fall. The sun had set and I was packing up to leave and all of a sudden it looked like someone turned on the colored lights. I unpacked and shot for another 15 minutes. Now I always wait.
It is a beautiful picture however, it doesn’t show the horrible stench from the rotting fish and the highly polluted lake. It is an environmental nightmare that no one has a solution for. Your photo is very deceptive.
Hi Jerry, I’ve been there many times, although only in the winter months, and I’ve never noticed a horrible stench. Having said that, I’m sure it is different in summer. But in winter it is very pleasant! The dead fish are not actually a result of pollution, but of the high salt levels since the sea has no inlet or outlet. There is pollution however due to runoff from nearby farms and that is going to be a big problem should California let the lake dry out. If it does, the pollutants will become airborne and that will be a disaster. There are solutions though! The only question is whether California will do anything about it before it’s too late. I disagree about my photo being deceptive though. This is precisely what it was like the day I was there. It was stunning and magical. Some of the best sunsets I’ve ever seen have been at the Salton Sea.
