I love exploring the local waters on my little boat, Snoopy, during my summers on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
There’s nothing better than combining my love for the ocean with my love for photography by going out on the water and looking for some wildlife to photograph.
One day while exploring Discovery Passage, which is just north of Campbell River, I was joined by a pod of Pacific White Sided Dolphins. It was one of my best boating days ever!
Since I am driving the boat at the same time as photographing, it can be really hard to make still photographs, so I thought I would try video. This is my fist ever travel video!
I made this video with my Canon 7D and my 24-105 f/4L lens. Then I used iMovie to combine all the clips.
I did manage to capture a few still photographs during the trip, but man the dolphins are fast!!
Now you can see why I love it up here so much. My best summer days are days spent out on the boat exploring.
Beautiful. I can see that using a better camera certainly improves iMovie videos. The photos are just wonderful, too. So many dolphins! I envy you. I’ve never seen more than two at a time.
an incredible experience you will never forget. I experienced this on a cruise ship around
Robsons Bite… They swam toward the ship and then swam at the bow of the ship…we were on deck 8 and I leaned over and shot pics of them under the bow…lucky for me…my husband hung onto my belt while I did this….was so amazing to watch them do this. We wondered if Orcas were in the area at the time chasing them and they looked to the ship for protection…hard to know.
This Dolphin video was no less than a dream come true for a photographer, I loved it.
From one old photographer to you, I moved from still to video years ago and have never looked back. I love my still shots but the video has added a greater dynamic to my work as well as being able to do so much more with video footage. I find the video editing to be such a creative outlet.
I would like to see more video and editing from you. So I encourage you to get the motion shots along with your stills and lets see how creative you can be.
You go girl.
Very much enjoyed watching this and the photographs.
Naturally your surname caught my interest! There are not that many of us around Great photos. We reside in Campbell River
Nice, Anne, definitely makes me wish I could be up there! I’d say you captured some very nice stills too. The first one after the video especially stands out, with the perfect dolphin leap and the peak in the background.
Hi Anne,
Just discovered your blog. What a treat to see these photographs and to watch the video. Also, I read the “About” section of your blog and looked around some. Very impressive. I appreciate your energy, vision, and your positive outlook on life. Nice job sharing your journey.
Take care,
Dean
Wow, what a cool experience! So cool you were able to get some stills and video.
Love your photos and locations and especially your lifestyle. I have towed a small fishing boat to Vancouver Island and camped up and down the coast.
From the video of the bow rail it looks like Snoopy is an Arima. Would love to learn more about your rig (RV and boat). I have a 19′ Arima and the plan is to someday wander around like you do.
Thanks, Hugh
Anne, After retiring in 2007 from 32 years as a trial lawyer/litigator, 2011 found me in Kenya for 11 days with a friend’s Nikon w/300mm lens. The photography “experience” changed my life. Traveling and photography is absolutely the most fun one can have in one lifetime. Your quantum leap from techie to wanderer is most impressive. Keep on keepin’ on!

ps- Nicknamed my new 4WD SUV “Willie”…because I can’t wait to be “On the Road Again”!!!
