One of the things I love about my current location on the estuary in Campbell River, British Columbia, is all the birds that frequent my back yard. Every day there are eagles, herons, geese and all sorts of small birds, so I get lots of practice with my bird photography.
I like to make abstract images featuring motion blur, as I shared with you earlier this week with my wildebeest abstract. To make today’s image I used a slow shutter speed of 1/25th of a second and panned as the great blue heron flew by.

To process this image, I only added a little contrast and some noise reduction in Lightroom. Quick and easy!
Anne, you have so many beautiful images, and I am going to continue to check out the rest of your site. Well done and I wish you well on your adventures.
An nice crossover from photography to painting. Knowing it was a Great Blue Heron. helped diminishing the wonderment.
What a beautiful image! You’ve inspired me to experiment with this technique.
