When going on an African safari, it’s always the big animals that get all the attention. The big 5. But I was quite amused by the playful jackals that seemed to appear every time the vehicle was moving slowly.

I think they were just as curious as I was. I photographed this one in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania. Since they can be quick on their feet, I set my ISO up very high to allow me a super fast shutter speed. Although when I made this image he actually stood still for a moment – just watching – as was I. I had my aperture wide open at f/2.8 to blur the background.
He is super cute. That’s one of the animals I never got to see but I did get a skull which was very tiny. Your African trip must’ve been the highlight of your life. I’m so enjoying every photo that you post from Africa.
Love the photo, but not the title. It should be “An Incredible Jackal” – Just a jackal downplays the beauty of the animal and how great they are.
