My boat Snoopy is all waxed and shiny, ready for the season here in Campbell River, British Columbia. We just had our first day of boating, and our first day of seeing whales too!

What luck to see them on the first day out. Just like how the eagles came to greet us on our first land day, the orcas came to greet us on our first day on the ocean.

This one even swam upside down, I think he wanted me to rub his belly!

This must be a sign of great things to come!

I made all of these images with my Canon 7D and my 400mm lens, which I love for wildlife photography.
I’ve come to realize that when photographing the Orca, if they are not jumping out of the water and I’m only going to get fins in the image, the background is critical. Backgrounds are always important, but in these images, it really adds a sense of place.
Hi Anne, your photos are wonderful. No wonder you go back up to BC for the summer. It looks like heaven. The mountains with the snow on them look almost ghostly. Thanks so much for sharing them with me.
Hi Janet, it is pretty spectacular up here in summer time! I love the mountains, the ocean, and all the wildlife. Thanks for your visit and comments 🙂
Now that is special for sure!!
Thanks Wanda!
