Last week I shared with you my Top 10 Landscape Photos of 2016. As you probably know, I love my wildlife photography too, so now I have my favourite wildlife photos from last year to share with you.
I didn’t do any special wildlife trips last year, so 8 of the 10 images were made during my summer on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Some of the images are from the shore, but many of them I made while on my little boat Snoopy. I love boating as much as photography, so combining those two passions is a real treat.

These are all brilliant wildlife photos. They make me want to rent a 600mm lens and travel. My favorite is Orcas and Seals, I like how it’s just trolling the waters waiting for a seal to make a bad decision but all the seals appear to be on high alert. It really tells a story. Kudos.

Lovely photos! I’m wondering, do bald eagles have any predators? Also, you’d think the sea lions would go to higher ground with an Orca in plain view.
Hi Gary, No, adult eagles have no predators (aside from perhaps humans). They sometimes get harassed by crows though! The danger is really to the eggs and the nestlings.
About the seals, I think they do try to get as high up on the rocks as they can, but the rocks are slippery and steep, and their flippers are only somewhat useful, so they have to kind of wriggle themselves up there. Thanks for your visit and comments! Glad you’re enjoying the photos.
I loved your 10 best wildlife photos. My own attempts whilst visiting BC & Alaska, using a 70-200 f4 x1.4, have been so-so, but I’m really chuffed with a shot of a female Anna’s Hummingbird feeding from a flowering Sage taken in my son’s front garden in Victoria during a short window of opportunity.
After this winter in the UK I think Scots may be be born wearing ‘Dunnies’!

Thank you Donald! I love photographing the hummingbirds too! They are so fast though, you have to really be prepared. Yes, I think everyone in Scotland has a pair of Dunnies they just keep in their vehicles just in case 🙂 And a lot of people just wear them all the time (like I ended up doing!). You’re going to love it here David and great time of year to be visiting. I hope you see lots of wildlife. And if you go to Victoria, don’t miss Butchart Gardens. Yes, it’s touristy, but it’s gorgeous too.
